So I don’t know how many of you know this, but my Mass Effect experiances have been quite interesting. When the game first came out a friend lent it and and a 360 to me over the summer. For the next 4 days I slammed into that game with the force of a category five hurricane. Wholly engrossed by the lore, settings, characters, performances, and freedom of narrative I had access to. Then, until Mass Effect 2 came to the PS3 I was behind everyone else and had to rebuild my Shepard as best I could with the provided Dark Horse comic book prologue. It wasn’t ideal, but better than starting with a bunch of unhappy defaults.
But now, after having thoroughly beaten Ni No Kuni, I can dedicate all my time to a personal dream, to play all three mass effect games back to back. It’ll give me the chance to not only revisit an old friend, but take the whole show in as a singular entity and see if how that changes what I think of it, unclouded by nostalgia.
Here’s what I need from you. So far I’ve had two playthroughs, a male sentinel Shepard, a female soldier Shepard, and I’d like to hear your opinions on the other classes and put it to a sort of vote. Here are the guarantees.
- Femshep - Romance with Liara - Wrex Lives - Spacer background so I can see Hannah Shepard in the Citadel DLC
Everything else is up for debate, vote, or suggestion. Thank you!
Give Vanguard a try. I loved playing as Soldier but wanted something that would give me some cool shit to try out, but still allow me to fall back on my Soldier-like mentality of “shoot everything in the face” if that wasn’t working out. We actually ended up being Soldier on the first game before switching to Vanguard in the second.
Cool, cool. Anyone else have two cents to give me?
Mass Effect - Begin at the beginning.

Forgot this was a thing.
I want you to imagine a conversation between Mordin Solus and Zerg Abathur
I only got so many messages from so many people for event style meet ups.
So what do I just wander around to make some of them happen?
Fair warning, you’re not ready for this. No one who hasn’t already seen it is.
It’s like I’m a kid again…
Just spent all night playing the last bits of Omega and all the action bits of Citadel…
Well damn I was just fully engrossed and entertained. Even when the game shat all over itself in one cutscene by having Aria deliver her big take back Omega speech while hilariously pirouetting around the platform.
Complaints? It’s over… Sure I can play through it again with a different kind of Shepard and team layout and maybe a different gun… But in the end will it ever be as good as the first time?
The cast carries the premise so well you forget how silly it is, as they make light of the danger and exchange witty repartee with each other and their enemies you BELIEVE in what is happening and that you’re a part of this.
I’m not quite done yet, the game froze at the calmest part of the DLC and since it was 5am I took that as a sign… Boy was I glad that none of my data got corrupted. Anyway! That’s all I can say without spoilers. I’ll have a fuller review once I’m done.
Later!
P.S. - If there’s something about it you want to talk to me about and don’t want it public, drop me an ask and I shall be discrete and private as required.
This is a place where you can read the often comical, quite inane opinions of a dithering, loudmouthed internet user. So it's pretty much like every OTHER place on the internet. Congratulations status quo! You won the internet! My name is Raul Ortiz. It's a pleasure to meet you.
