HAL’S HECTIC 31 DAYS OF HORROR - DAY 01: Braindead (aka Dead Alive), 1992, Co-written and Directed by Peter Jackson.

Well then, let’s go right ahead and get our feet wet. Hello! Welcome to Hal’s Hectic 31 Days of Horror. I’m Doctor Hal, your friendly neighborhood baggy-eyed weirdo here to bring you an October full of clips, trailer, and if possible links to where you can watch 31 different examples of a genre near and dear to my heart and other organs, Horror.

My fascination with Horror as a genre goes back to my unique upbringing. My father held the view that I was intelligent and rational enough to divide fiction from reality and did little to censor the things I was allowed to view at an early age (Outright porn still taboo of course, that’s just reasonable parenting). At the tender age of 9 I was taken one afternoon by my father to a free screening of the movie “Lord of Illusions" a Clive Barker film starring Scott Bakula. Not exactly the most child friendly film but I came out of it with minimal mental scarring.

But that set alight in my this interest in all things terrifying. At first it was a self induced endurance challenge, how long could I look without flinching or turning away… But soon it grew into appreciation as one does with most forms of art or fiction. You grow to appreciate the concepts and ideas that reside there and, in turn, wish to share this strange little happy feeling you get when the work matches or exceeds your expectations.

Braindead (Dead Alive) is, for all intents and purposes, an intentional B-Grade romp, the kind that honors the classic Grindhouse features while showing obvious talent and intention. It’s gore from the get go, blood and guts everywhere and kooky one-liners from a cast of people you’ve never heard of. If you’re bored or tired of your atypical zombie movie tropes and gimmicks, let this be your tonic!

Grab some popcorn, some drinks, and some friends, and enjoy the thing that made me question if Peter Jackson really was the right choice for Lord of the Rings. I promise that the visceral vivisections are simply slapstick level as the amount of practical effect organ evisceration and resultant splatter of blood borders on the cartoonish.

Check it out here if you like!

Can I get some credible sources?

Here’s one

and another

and one more for the road

… I’m not finding any sources I’d considered unbiased and credible in the same sentence. Also there are, apparently, articles about this from 2012. So, what’s the deal with this?
